our dear Lord Jesus Christ is Jehovah God, the great I AM; He is whatever we need!

In the Old Testament, when God called Moses to go and take His people out of Egypt and into the good land, as a reply to Moses’ question, Who should I say to this people when they ask me: Who sent you to us? – God replied in Exodus 3:14:

And God said to Moses, I AM WHO I AM. And He said, Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, I AM has sent me to you.

Even more, now in the New Testament, the Lord Jesus came and He said in John 8:58,

Jesus said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, Before Abraham came into being, I am.

Wow. The Lord Jesus is not just one with God / Jehovah – the Lord Jesus Christ is Jehovah God! Our Dear Lord Jesus Christ is the great I Am! If we see this, all that the Lord said in John and the other Gospels makes sense! He said repeatedly that He is whatever we need – He is the light, He is the life, He is the bread of life, He is the living bread, He is the living water, He is the pasture, He is the Shepherd, He is the door into the sheepfold, etc. Christ is indeed everything. In 1 Corinthians we also see that Paul introduces / presents this wonderful Christ as everything for the building up of the church and as the solution to every problem in the church, Christ as so many positive things for us to enjoy and partake of.

The Lord Jesus being the I AM means that He is like a signed blank check with our name on it – we just need to fill in the sum of money we need. We just need to come to Him and tell Him what we need, and He is! Do we need peace? Christ is our peace. Do we need forgiveness? Christ is our forgiveness. Do we need joy? Christ is our joy. He is the reality of all the positive things in the universe to meet all our needs for God’s economy! We can’t exhaust Him – He is so rich, so full, He can fulfill all our needs! He is salvation, righteousness, holiness, sanctification, wisdom, power, life, light, the shining star, the morning star, the sun, the rich soil, the root of fatness, the great rock in a dessert, a hiding place, etc. The Bible speaks again and again of what the Lord wants to be to us, to cherish and nourish us, to take care of us, to meet all our needs!

Yes, Christ is the Eternal One, the One who just IS – with no beginning, no time limit, and no ending. But even more, towards us, all His riches are available in our spirit for us to enjoy! Yes, He was before Abraham, but He can be so personal and intimate to us – as our daily food and drink, as our fresh air we breathe in, even as our life and life supply! Christ lives in us, waiting for us to turn to Him / enjoy Him as everything that we need! As we enjoy Him and take Him in as the reality of the fulfillment of all our needs, He accomplishes His purpose in and through us. Let’s enjoy Him today, and let’s learn to enjoy Him as the One who meets all our needs! Lord, You are All We Need!
